Summary:
After years school, tennis, and eventually taking on a job, Mark was able to get a scolarship to a school in the United States at the age of eighteen. Mark got a job because over the year, Mark's mother grew weaker since she gained diabetes and still had to maintain the fiances of the family in poor health. He leaves on September 16, 1978 and will not be back for atleast four years, of course everyone is sad because he is leaving, but happy because he will have a great future. Mark seems to be a little unhappy though because he does not know what the future will hold for his family though since they remain in South America. They all share their kisses and hugs, and of course tears starts to be shedded. Mark had to leave his family once he got in the car to go to the airport, since it could not fit all of them. As the car drives off, Mark wants to turn back to his family but has to remain strong to have a strong future.

Reaction: This has to be one of the memorible phrases in the whole entire book. Through all their stuggles living in South America, the only thing that had is hope. And this hope was what lead Mark to go to American and recieve education from a great school. Now that Mark's mother tells him to have hope again, this will be the thing to help him make it through in America and suceed in life.
