The Book Theif (Page 113-224)

Summary:

          Death explains to the reader about the happened four months before the red sky incident. The boy who died on the trian was actually the book's theif bother and her name is Liesel. Liesel is not every educated because he mother cannot afford it, therefore she cannot speak or read much. She it also 10 years old and it is currently Janurary, 1939. Before Liesel's brother died, he was very sick and could not stop coughing. Liesel's mother was on her way to take her children to their new foster parents. During this time Liesel was a dreaming of her bowing to the Fuhrer, which means leader, who is Hitler. She smiles at when she he caught her attention and asked him how is he. When she wakes up see is not really paying attention but she is able to see that her brother is dead just starring at him. Death thinks that she is actually starring at him, amazed that a human could actually "see" him. He waves to her but she does not respond to him action. So in about two days they have a funeral for her brother, and she screams in disbelief that her brother is actually dead. A beginer grave digger drops his grave digging book from his pocket and she to take it. Death is here the whole time just watching everything. Later on, Liesel is taken to her step parent house Han Huberman and Rosa Hubermann. She refused to leave the car to go, just abonding her mother, but she eventually went with them. Eventually Liesel will start to steal books from Nazi book burnings.

           After a while of getting aquitanted in the neighborhood, Liesel was given the task to do deliever laundry to the Mayor's House. In the Mayor's House there is many books, in which is where she does he next act of book stealing. Liesel's adpoted father, Han, turns out to be a really nice person and help Liesel pratice reading everynight. One day, the Mayor's Wife seen Liesel stealing from the library and Liesel knows that she saw her stealing as well. One of her new friends who deeply likes Jacky Robbinson, who goes with her to deliver

the laundry the next day. The Mayor's Wife was actually the one who answers it but all she does and gives her the money and just closes the door, not bringing up anything of the stealing. From this, Liesel believes that the Mayor's Wife did not see her when she stoled. Although Death tell the reader how the Mayor's Wife clearly saw her and is only waiting for the right time to bring it up. Liesel goes back a next day to give the Mayor the laundry but again the Mayor's Wife answers and has a bag in her hand. Liesel thought it would be more laundry to do but it was actually a bag of book. The Mayor's Wife invent Liesel in and shows her the giant, cold library that they have in her house. Right when Liesel was going to thank the Mayor's Wife, the Mayor's Wife goes to her hushand's need with a look that she is in pain. As the Mayor's Wife goes she closes the door, and in which really pleases Liesel.

          Now death takes the reader away from the Liesel's life to storage room in Stuttgart, where a Jewish person is in. That person name is Max and he has not eaten for days, bearly have slept, and is currently freezing by the extremely cold weather. A man calls out Max's name and says sorry for leaving him alone, and gives him a card that says he is not a Jew. The man gives him a book, in this book it has directions to of "where to go" and a key. The man goes and then Max eats food which he believes is not very good, then prays that he is going to a good man who just happens to be Han Hubbermann

 Quote: "One of her eyes is open, the other is closed, still dreaming."

Reaction:

          I was excited after I read this quote, because I thought picked out a really strong sentences which demonstrates a lot about Liesel, the book theif. In this sitation one of her eyes is open, viewing the death of her younger brother. Although in the next closed eye that is dreaming, she is viewing her own world, admiring her idol, Hilter. This means that Liesel is not currently/fully within reality, showing that even though in a place of pain and suffer, she is still able to escape it. In my opion, I think it is never good to ignore something like that or stay in doubt but somethings it could be a good thing to ignore suffering.
